Extraction

Updated: Apr 25, 2024

Extraction is to be performed by approved station banders only.

Sensitive species (WIWA, OCWA) and any bird otherwise needing to be processed first will receive orange flagging tape on bird bag to indicate priority.

Recapture birds in bags will be marked with green flagging tape so they can be identified for the recapture processing bander.

Hummers are identified, sexed and aged to the best of your ability at the net and released at the net (not brought back to station). Take photos if you are unsure, and note the net run time and net number.

Both SPTO and CALT are put in a specialized container, the "towhee bucket" or, if absolutely needed, held in a bird bag in both hands and processed first to prevent leg injuries.

If a net needs mending, attach a piece of flagging tape to the trammel loop on the pole.
