Station Roles

The Net Run Timekeeper: set timers for net runs, record net times on the station whiteboard, ensure birds from each net run are kept together, complete the Summary of Mist-Netting Effort form

The Net Counter: count the number of nets in the net totes before setting up nets and after taking netsdown.

The Birder: keep a tally of all birds heard and seen in the station area (ideally using an eBird checklist) and fill in the Breeding Status List form.

The Summarizer: summarize the data at the end of the banding day: number of new captures, recaptures, and unbanded birds. Fill in the Summary of Mist-Netting Results form. Post the daily tally of species and capture type on our website Forum.

Bander, Recap/Unbanded Bander: station banders all fill these roles thoughout the banding day. The Recap/Unbanded bander will process birds as though they were a new capture; once complete, the bander can look up the original banding date as time allows.

Scribe: station banders will assist one another as scribes as time and bird volume allows, and in accordance with personal tastes.
